the Windward side
Kualoa Ranch
A working ranch in a valley you have seen in films, with tours by ATV, horse and bus.

Why go
The landscape from Jurassic Park, and the only way onto that private land.
The catch
You cannot enter the valley without booking a tour, and tours sell out weeks ahead in high season. Single tours list at around $100-$155 and full-day packages at $165, though the site almost always has them discounted to roughly $60-$100. Check the price on the day rather than trusting a number you read somewhere.

Getting there
Driving times on real roads, from the same data the trip planner routes on — not straight-line distance.
| From Waikīkī | 49 min | 23.3 miles |
|---|---|---|
| From HNL airport | 1 hr 2 min | 27.8 miles |
| From Kailua | 36 min | 16.3 miles |
| From Downtown Honolulu | 43 min | 20.2 miles |
Add traffic. These are free-flowing times, and the H1 through town at eight in the morning is not free-flowing.
