the Windward side
Heeia State Park
A small headland over Kaneohe Bay, looking down on an 800-year-old fishpond.

Why go
The best view of Heeia fishpond and the bay behind it, from a quiet lawn that almost no visitor finds.
The catch
There is no beach and no swimming here. It is a viewpoint with grass, and the community groups running it sometimes have the gate shut.

Getting there
Driving times on real roads, from the same data the trip planner routes on — not straight-line distance.
| From Waikīkī | 35 min | 16.6 miles |
|---|---|---|
| From HNL airport | 47 min | 21.1 miles |
| From Kailua | 20 min | 7.5 miles |
| From Downtown Honolulu | 28 min | 13.5 miles |
Add traffic. These are free-flowing times, and the H1 through town at eight in the morning is not free-flowing.
