Central Oʻahu
Wahiawā Botanical Garden
A rainforest garden in the middle of the island, on an old sugar plantation's test plot.

Why go
Tree ferns and epiphytes in a cool upland gulch, when the coast is too hot.
The catch
Mostly shut. The City says the majority of the garden is closed until further notice after hurricane damage - only the entrance, visitor centre, multi-purpose room and main lawn are open. Check before you drive up.

Getting there
Driving times on real roads, from the same data the trip planner routes on — not straight-line distance.
| From Waikīkī | 43 min | 26.1 miles |
|---|---|---|
| From HNL airport | 44 min | 22.6 miles |
| From Hale‘iwa | 22 min | 10.5 miles |
| From Ko Olina | 33 min | 21.4 miles |
Add traffic. These are free-flowing times, and the H1 through town at eight in the morning is not free-flowing.
